A Better Monday Song
August 30, 2010 No CommentsThis morning somehow my alarm clock was set to a pop radio station and I woke up to “Just Another Manic Monday” by the Bangles. Then I got in my car and surfed around on my Siris satellite radio, only to find the same song taking up air space during the radio-industry prime-spot, known as “drive time”. Although I was a ‘tween and a teen in the 80′s and rocked to my share of 80′s girl bands, certainly someone’s written a Monday song with more modern appeal?
There are the classics that pre-date the Bangles: The Carpenters “Rainy Days and Mondays”, The Mamas and the Papas “Monday Monday” and Boomtown Rats “I Don’t Like Mondays” – but my top-three modern selects are:
#1- Tegan and Sara – Monday, Monday, Monday
Twin sisters with guitars.
#2 – Kupek - Monday Morning
This is a great video from a band I’d never heard of before embarking on my Monday-song mission. Great tune.
#3 – Pulp - Monday Morning
It’s a great song, and lead man Jarvis Cocker is that fantastic combination of poetic, loud, chiseled and coiffed much like my 80s crush, Cee Farrow.
