Introducing Josh Dion

October 7, 2010 2 Comments

Yep, you guessed right. He’s got the beat. He’s a guy with guitar. A guy with keyboards. A guy with drums. And great hair. And based on his comment below, he probably went to sleep just before this article was posted.

Hey, wait – is that him in the Clara Lofaro video?

We’re looking forward to seeing him perform at the Gotcha Music Series in NYC on December 17th.

Enjoy!

Name: Josh Dion

Home-base: Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Where do you find your writing inspiration: In everyday living. Listening.

First gig you ever played: Bicentenial Pond Summer Music Concert in Mansfield, CT  8 years old

Favorite song/most inspirational song as a kid: Not sure — second side of Abbey Road? “White Room” by Cream. Something by Robert Johnson or “Sing Sing Sing” by Benny Goodman.

First song you learned to play: “No Way Out” – Allman Bros version.

Artist you’d most like to be on stage with: Earth Wind and Fire circa 1975.

Things you are juggling:  Being a sideman and an artist. It’s 24/7 – working, touring, just to live and spending all your other time creating. Also, relationships.

Biggest challenge about being an independent musician: Trying to find the right opportunities without the ability to pull huge favors. Lack of money.

Best thing about being an independent musician: Freedom. The sky is still the limit. Give it time.

Gear you use: Yamaha Drums – Zildjian Cymbals – Vic Firth sticks – Evans drumheads – Nord Electro 3 61 key keyboard – with Moogafooer – Big Muff – Peavey KB 360 AMP which could wreck a small village – 1972 Rhythm Ace Drum Machine – also interested in David Smith synths – Cheap but sturdy Alvarez acoustic guitar for around the apartment

Dream gear?: Bigger drums – more drums — all vintage keyboards and someone to fix them when they break – a 1972 P Bass with flatwounds – a sick vintage microphone of some kind that looks funky – that Yamaha keyboard spaceship, the G1….

Anything else you’d like to add? I’m still in bed. It’s 10:46 am. But I’m a musician :)
