Where do you find your writing inspiration: Usually the things that happen in my everyday life. My last CD “On The Fringe” was very autobiographical, about the struggles, rejections, hopes and dreams of being a musician. My next CD “Sweet Revenge” is mostly a collection of love/relationship songs, some chronicling the ups and downs I’ve experienced, some are other people’s experiences that I’ve observed.

Do you write to find lyrics or music riffs first? Both – usually an idea will pop into my head in the form of a melody with a sentence or two of lyrics. And usually that’s the “hook” or chorus of the song. So I then build the story upon that idea, going back and forth between finding the right chord progressions and finishing the lyrics.

First gig you ever played: A cafe in New York City, that has since closed.

Favorite song/most inspirational song as a kid: I can’t pick just one, my taste in music was constantly changing from pop to rock to even classical.

First song you learned to play: Sweet Child O’Mine (Guns N’ Roses) on the piano.

Artist you’d most like to be on stage with: Sheryl Crow

Things you are juggling: Recording, songwriting, rehearsing, performing, booking gigs, promotion/PR, along with working the day job, and being a wife.

Biggest challenge about being an independent musician: Having enough time to do it all!

Best thing about being an independent musician: Being your own boss and having all the creative control.

Gear you use: Martin DC-16GTE acoustic/electric guitar, Korg Triton LE workstation keyboard for recording, and a Casio Privia 88-key keyboard which is my lightweight keyboard for gigs. I also use Knucklehead Strings, which I have an endorsement deal with.

Dream gear?: I’m very happy with what I have now, I’ve saved up a lot over the years to get them.
