Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
April 10, 2011 No Comments

I don’t know what rock I was hiding under, but the addicting sights and sounds of Grace Potter & The Nocturnals didn’t make it onto my radar until last month, just a week before their headline show in Providence, RI, at Lupo’s. I don’t usually like to compare one musician to another, but in this case, it’s hard not to note that this woman is 1,000 lovers rolled into one. Susan Tedeschi, Bonnie Raitt, Janis Joplin the most dominant among them. I still haven’t been able to stop incessant listening to their self-titled album released last summer, and echoes of the powerful live performance still come through my head.
Guitarist Benny Yurco is not only jaw-droppingly virtuostic he puts out enough energy to power the sound board.
Grace is fun to photograph, but really, they all are. But I am not sure what would happen if they all cut their hair short.
Video is true to the energy of their live show, minus the feathers.
And if you want to read an interview with Grace, I highly suggest this one, on dysonsound.com.
