Why See Interpol Live?

Scene of the crime: Lupo’s, Providence, RI
If you like to listen to Interpol while standing alone in the dark, then a ticket to Interpol live might make sense – you’d get to stand in the dark with a thousand people, there’d be a light show and a smoke machine. And, of course, the band would be standing there. But for me that was just the problem. They were just standing there. Interpol live= Interpol at home.
I am big fan of showmanship, although that doesn’t mean everyone needs to add a Lady Gaga or Madonna level of theatrics to their music. It can still be about the music. But I need there to be some acknowledgment, direct or indirect, that I left my house, I drove to a venue, I bought a ticket and came to see and hear you. I came to give you my attention and I want you to take it. But for me, without the fog and colors, it was the kind of show I could eat dinner and talk to my friends through – so, I am saddened to admit Interpol was feeling more like bar band than a headliner. Hate me if you will. You can rock your Expressions of Vader shirt and raise your hands in the air if it’s your sorta thing.
